Authenticity is the cornerstone of happiness from "summary" of Where We Belong by Emily Giffin

In a world where we are constantly bombarded with images and messages telling us who we should be, it can be easy to lose sight of our true selves. We may find ourselves bending and contorting to fit into the mold that society expects of us, all the while feeling a deep sense of emptiness inside. But what if we were to strip away all the layers of pretense and facade, and simply embrace who we truly are? What if we were to live our lives authentically, without fear of judgment or rejection? In "Where We Belong," the characters grapple with questions of identity and belonging, ultimately coming to the realization that true happiness can only be found when we are true to ourselves. Marian, a successful television producer, appears to have it all - a thriving career, a handsome boyfriend, and a glamorous lifestyle. But deep down, she feels a sense of unease, a nagging feeling that something is missing. As Marian embarks on a journey to reconnect with her past, she begins to unravel the layers of deception that she has built up over the years. She comes to understand that in order to find true happiness, she must first be honest with herself about who she is and what she wants. Only then can she begin to build a life that is authentic and fulfilling. Similarly, Kirby, a young woman searching for her birth mother, struggles with feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt. She longs to find her place in the world, to belong somewhere. But as Kirby delves deeper into her own story, she learns that true belonging can only come from within. She must embrace her true self, flaws and all, in order to find the happiness and fulfillment she seeks. Through the experiences of these characters, we are reminded that authenticity is not just a buzzword or a passing trend. It is the foundation upon which true happiness is built. When we are authentic, we are able to live with integrity, to make choices that align with our values and beliefs. We are able to form genuine connections with others, based on mutual respect and understanding.
