To embrace our emotions is to honor the truth of who we are. It is to acknowledge the full spectrum of feelings that course through our veins, whether they be joy, anger, sadness, fear, or love. Embracing our emotions means allowing ourselves to feel without judgment or shame, to sit with discomfort and uncertainty, and to listen to the message that our feelings have to impart. When we numb our emotions, when we push them down or ignore them, we are denying ourselves the opportunity to fully experience life. We are cutting ourselves off from the wisdom that our emotions hold, the insights they can provide about our desires, our boundaries, and our relationships. By embracing our emotions, we are inviting ourselves to be fully present in our own lives, to show up as our authentic selves, unfiltered and unapologetic. Embracing our emotions requires courage and vulnerability.
