Communication is key in maintaining relationships from "summary" of Turtles All the Way Down by John Green
Communication was the key or, as my therapist liked to put it, "the cornerstone" of any relationship. Without communication, relationships couldn't survive. Conversations were like bridges connecting two people, allowing them to understand each other better. But for those bridges to remain strong, they needed constant maintenance. It wasn't just about talking, though. It was about really listening, about being present in the moment and truly hearing what the other person was saying. It was about being vulnerable, about opening up and sharing your thoughts and feelings, even the ones that scared you the most. It was about being honest, even when the truth was hard to say. But sometimes, communication could be messy. Sometimes, it was easier to keep things to yourself, to let the silence speak for you. But silence could be just as damaging as words left unsaid. It could create distance, misunderstandings, and resentment. It could erode the foundation of a relationship until it crumbled beneath the weight of all the things left unspoken.- Communication was about connection. It was about building a bridge strong enough to withstand the storms that life threw your way. It was about sharing your burdens and your joys, your fears and your hopes. It was about being seen and understood, about knowing that someone was there for you, no matter what. And that, I realized, was the true essence of a relationship.
