Trust the process, not just the outcome from "summary" of Thinking in Bets by Annie Duke
When we focus solely on the outcome, we are often setting ourselves up for disappointment. We become fixated on winning or losing, without considering the process that led to that result. This narrow focus on the end result can blind us to the valuable lessons that can be learned along the way. By trusting the process, we can shift our attention to the journey rather than the destination. This allows us to appreciate the progress we are making and the skills we are developing, regardless of the ultimate outcome. Trusting the process involves embracing uncertainty and being open to the possibility of failure. It requires us to acknowledge that we cannot control every outcome, but we can control how we approach each situation. By focusing on the process, we can make more informed decisions and improve our chances of success in the long run. This mindset allows us to be more adaptable and resilient in the face of setbacks, knowing that each failure is an opportunity to learn and grow. When we trust the process, we are able to make better decisions under conditions of uncertainty. We can weigh the probabilities and make more reasoned choices, rather than relying on gut instincts or blind faith. This approach encourages us to seek out new information, consider alternative perspectives, and continually reassess our assumptions. By staying curious and open-minded, we can adapt to changing circumstances and improve our decision-making skills over time. Trusting the process also helps us to manage our emotions more effectively. When we are too focused on the outcome, we may become anxious, frustrated, or overly confident. By shifting our attention to the process, we can stay grounded in reality and maintain a more balanced perspective. This allows us to approach each decision with a clear mind and a steady hand, reducing the likelihood of making impulsive or irrational choices.- Trusting the process involves focusing on the journey rather than the destination, embracing uncertainty and failure, making informed decisions under conditions of uncertainty, staying curious and open-minded, and managing our emotions effectively. By adopting this mindset, we can improve our decision-making skills, become more adaptable and resilient, and ultimately achieve better outcomes in the long run.
