Live in the present moment from "summary" of The Zen of Living and Dying by Philip Kapleau
Living in the present moment means being fully attentive to whatever is happening right here and now, without getting caught up in regrets about the past or worries about the future. It is about experiencing life as it is unfolding in front of you, without being distracted by thoughts or emotions that pull you away from the present. When we are truly present in each moment, we are able to fully engage with whatever is happening around us, whether it is a pleasant experience or a challenging one. We can appreciate the beauty of a sunrise, the sound of birds singing, or the warmth of a loved one's embrace without letting our minds wander to other places. In Zen practice, living in the present moment is emphasized as a way to cultivate mindfulness and awareness. By focusing on the here and now, we can develop a deeper connection to ourselves and the world around us. We can let go of attachments to the past and fears about the future, and instead, be fully present with whatever arises in our lives. One of the key teachings of Zen is impermanence – the understanding that all things are constantly changing and that nothing lasts forever. When we live in the present moment, we are better able to accept this truth and to appreciate the fleeting nature of life. We can savor the moments of joy and find strength in the face of difficulties, knowing that everything is temporary. Living in the present moment also allows us to let go of the stories we tell ourselves about who we are and what we should be doing. Instead of getting caught up in self-judgment or comparison to others, we can simply be present with our thoughts and emotions as they arise, without trying to change or control them. By practicing mindfulness and living in the present moment, we can cultivate a sense of peace and contentment that comes from being fully immersed in the richness of life. We can learn to appreciate each moment for what it is, without needing to add anything extra or take anything away. In this way, we can find a deep sense of fulfillment and connection to the world around us.Similar Posts
