Stop seeking happiness in external things from "summary" of The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck. Gift Edition by Mark Manson

The idea that happiness lies in external things is a common misconception that many of us fall victim to. We believe that if we acquire more money, a better job, a nicer house, or a more attractive partner, we will finally be happy. We search for happiness in material possessions, status symbols, and other people, thinking that they will fill the void inside us. However, this pursuit of external validation is a never-ending cycle that only leads to disappointment and dissatisfaction. The truth is that true happiness comes from within. It is not something that can be found in the outside world, but rather something that must be cultivated from within ourselves. We must learn to accept ourselves for who we are, flaws and all, and find contentment in the present moment. This means letting go of the constant need for approval from others and focusing on what truly matters to us. When we stop seeking happiness in external things, we free ourselves from the endless pursuit of perfection and external validation. We learn to appreciate the simple joys of life and find fulfillment in the things that truly matter to us. This shift in perspective allows us to let go of the things that do not serve us and focus on what brings us true happiness and meaning. By recognizing that true happiness comes from within, we can break free from the cycle of constantly seeking validation from external sources. We can learn to prioritize our own well-being and cultivate a sense of contentment that is not dependent on outside factors. In doing so, we can find a deeper sense of peace and fulfillment that transcends the fleeting pleasures of material possessions and superficial validation.
