To truly cultivate self-compassion, we must practice it every single day. This means showing ourselves the same kindness and understanding that we would offer to a dear friend. It means being gentle with ourselves when we make mistakes, rather than beating ourselves up. It means recognizing that we are only human, and that it is okay to have flaws and imperfections. Self-compassion also involves letting go of the need to be perfect, and embracing ourselves exactly as we are. It means acknowledging our worthiness and deservingness of love and respect, simply by virtue of being alive.
