Mindfulness is a concept that gets thrown around a lot these days, but what does it actually mean? It’s about being aware of what’s happening in your mind and body, and in the world around you, in the present moment. It’s about paying attention to your thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations without judging them or getting caught up in them. It’s about being fully present in your life, rather than lost in the past or worried about the future. Cultivating mindfulness takes practice. It’s like building a muscle – the more you work at it, the stronger it gets. One way to cultivate mindfulness is through meditation. Meditation is a practice that involves sitting quietly and focusing on your breath, or on a word or phrase, or on a visualization. When your mind starts to wander (as it inevitably will), you gently bring it back to your chosen focal point, without getting frustrated or judging yourself.
