Choose acceptance over resistance from "summary" of The Radical Acceptance of Everything by Ann Weiser Cornell

When we encounter difficult emotions or challenging situations, our natural tendency is often to resist them. We push against the discomfort, trying to avoid or change it. This resistance can come in the form of denial, distraction, or judgment. We tell ourselves that we shouldn't feel this way, that we need to get rid of these feelings as quickly as possible. In our efforts to resist what is happening, we actually end up creating more suffering for ourselves. The alternative to resistance is acceptance. Acceptance means acknowledging and allowing our experiences to be exactly as they are, without trying to force them to be different. It means making space for all of our feelings, thoughts, and sensations, even the ones that are painful or challenging. When we choose acceptance over resistance, we open ourselves up to a greater sense of peace and freedom. Acceptance doesn't mean that we have to like or agree with everything that is happening. It simply means being willing to be present with our experiences, no matter how difficult they may be. Acceptance allows us to cultivate a sense of curiosity and compassion towards ourselves, rather than falling into self-criticism or self-blame. When we practice acceptance, we are able to see our experiences more clearly and respond to them with wisdom and kindness. We can learn to hold our emotions and thoughts with gentleness and care, rather than trying to push them away. This attitude of acceptance creates a sense of spaciousness within us, where we can find peace and resilience in the face of life's challenges. Choosing acceptance over resistance is a radical act of self-compassion. It is a powerful way to shift our relationship with ourselves and the world around us. By embracing all of our experiences with an open heart and mind, we can cultivate a deep sense of well-being and connection. Acceptance allows us to move through life with greater ease and grace, no matter what comes our way.
