Embrace impermanence and the flow of life from "summary" of The Presence Process by Michael Brown

Life is a constantly changing river, always flowing, never standing still. This is the natural way of things. We are like leaves on this river, being carried along by the current. We must learn to embrace this impermanence, to accept it as the fundamental truth of our existence. It is in fighting against this flow, in trying to hold on to what is passing away, that we create suffering for ourselves. When we resist the natural flow of life, when we cling to what is transient and ephemeral, we are like a tree trying to hold on to its leaves in the autumn. We must learn to let go, to allow things to come and go as they will. This is not to say that we should be passive or indifferent to the world around us. Rather, we should engage fully with life, but without attachment or aversion. By accepting the impermanence of all things, we become more present to each moment as it arises. We learn to appreciate the beauty of each passing experience, knowing that it is fleeting and will soon be gone. This awareness allows us to savor the richness of life, to drink deeply from the well of each passing moment.
  1. It is through embracing impermanence that we find peace and contentment in the midst of life's ever-changing currents. We learn to ride the waves of existence with grace and equanimity, knowing that we are part of something much larger and more profound than ourselves. In this way, we come to understand the true nature of reality and our place within it.
