Focus on the present moment rather than future worries from "summary" of The Mindful Way through Anxiety by Susan M. Orsillo,Lizabeth Roemer

When we find ourselves caught up in worries about the future, it can be overwhelming and crippling. Our minds become consumed with what might happen, leading us down a path of anxiety and stress. However, by shifting our focus to the present moment, we can break free from this cycle of worry. By being mindful of the present moment, we can anchor ourselves in the here and now. We can pay attention to our current thoughts, feelings, and sensations, without getting lost in what-ifs and worst-case scenarios. This practice can help us see that, in this moment, we are okay. We are safe, and we are capable of handling whatever comes our way. When we focus on the present moment, we can also recognize that many of our worries about the future are based on assumptions and predictions that may never come to pass. By staying grounded in the present, we can see that these worries are just thoughts – not realities. We can learn to let go of them, rather than allowing them to consume us. Mindfulness allows us to observe our thoughts and feelings without judgment. We can acknowledge our worries about the future, but we don't have to buy into them. Instead, we can choose to redirect our attention to the present moment, where we have the power to make choices and take action. By practicing mindfulness and focusing on the present moment, we can cultivate a sense of calm and clarity. We can learn to trust in our ability to handle whatever challenges may come our way. When we let go of future worries and embrace the present moment, we free ourselves from the grip of anxiety and open ourselves up to a greater sense of peace and well-being.
