The manifest content of dreams differs from the latent content from "summary" of The Interpretation of Dreams by Sigmund Freud
In my research on dreams, I have found that there is a distinction between what appears on the surface of a dream, known as the manifest content, and the underlying, hidden meanings, known as the latent content. The manifest content is what we remember upon waking, the images, thoughts, and emotions that are readily accessible to our conscious mind. It is the literal storyline of the dream, the events and characters that we can easily recount. However, the latent content of a dream is not as easily discernible. It is the deeper, symbolic meaning behind the manifest content, representing our unconscious desires, fears, and conflicts. This hidden content often reflects our repressed thoughts and feelings, things that we may not be aware of in our waking life. The latent content is disguised in symbols and metaphors, requiring interpretation to uncover its true significance. On...Similar Posts
