Self 1 is the mind that criticizes and judges from "summary" of The Inner Game of Tennis (50th Anniversary Edition) by W. Timothy Gallwey

Self 1 is the voice in our head that is constantly chattering away, giving us instructions, analyzing our performance, and criticizing our every move. It is the part of our mind that is always judging, evaluating, and comparing. When we make a mistake on the tennis court, Self 1 is quick to point it out and tell us what we should have done differently. Self 1 is the part of our mind that is always trying to control and manipulate our actions. It is the part that is constantly interfering with our natural ability to play the game. When we are too focused on what Self 1 is telling us, we become tense, anxious, and self-conscious. We start to overthink every shot, second-guessing ourselves and losing trust in our instincts. Self 1 is like a relentless coach who is never satisfied with our performance. It is always demanding more, pushing us to do better, and never allowing us to relax and enjoy the game. When we listen to Self 1 too much, we become trapped in a cycle of self-criticism and doubt. The key to overcoming the negative influence of Self 1 is to learn to quiet that inner voice and trust in our natural abilities. By focusing on the present moment, staying relaxed and alert, and letting go of the need to control every aspect of our performance, we can tap into our inner resources and play the game with ease and confidence. When we are able to silence Self 1 and let go of our judgments and expectations, we enter a state of flow where our actions become effortless and intuitive. We are no longer hindered by self-doubt or fear of failure. Instead, we are able to play the game with joy, spontaneity, and creativity.
