True happiness comes from within from "summary" of The Essays by Michel de Montaigne
In our pursuit of happiness, we often look to external factors such as wealth, fame, or success to bring us fulfillment. We believe that these things will ultimately bring us the joy and contentment we desire. However, I argue that true happiness does not come from external sources, but rather from within ourselves. When we rely on external factors to make us happy, we are placing our well-being in the hands of things that are ultimately beyond our control. Wealth can be lost, fame can be fleeting, and success can be elusive. If our happiness is dependent on these things, we are setting ourselves up for disappointment and dissatisfaction. On the other hand, when we look within ourselves for happiness, we are tapping into a source that is always accessible to us. True happiness comes from cultivating a sense of contentment and peace within ourselves, regardless of our external circumstances. It is about finding joy in the present moment, rather than constantly seeking it in the future. By looking within ourselves for happiness, we are able to find a sense of fulfillment that is lasting and resilient. We are no longer at the mercy of external forces, but rather empowered by our own inner resources. This is not to say that external factors have no role to play in our happiness, but rather that they should not be the sole determinants of it.- True happiness is not something that can be found outside of ourselves. It is a state of being that comes from within, rooted in a sense of contentment and peace that is independent of external circumstances. By cultivating this inner happiness, we are able to live more fulfilling and satisfying lives, regardless of what may come our way.
