Release expectations of others from "summary" of The Courage to be Disliked by Ichiro Kishimi,Fumitake Koga
Releasing expectations of others is not about giving up on relationships or abandoning others. It is not about shutting oneself off from the outside world. Rather, it is about recognizing that we cannot control others and their actions. When we release our expectations of others, we free ourselves from the burden of constantly trying to change them. We accept others as they are, without demanding that they meet our desires or live up to our standards. By releasing expectations of others, we also free ourselves from the need for approval. We no longer seek validation from others, as we understand that our worth does not depend on their opinions. We become more self-reliant and self-assured, trusting in our own judgments and decisions. This sense of independence allows us to live authentically, without being swayed by the expectations or judgments of others. Releasing expectations of others does not mean that we become indifferent or apathetic. On the contrary, it allows us to approach relationships with a sense of openness and compassion. We can listen to others without judgment, and offer support without expecting anything in return. This attitude of unconditional acceptance fosters genuine connections and deepens our relationships. When we release our expectations of others, we also let go of resentment and bitterness. We no longer hold grudges or feel disappointed when others do not meet our expectations. Instead, we focus on our own growth and development, taking responsibility for our own happiness and fulfillment. This shift in perspective allows us to cultivate a sense of inner peace and contentment, regardless of the actions or behaviors of others.- Releasing expectations of others is an act of courage. It requires us to confront our own insecurities and fears, and to embrace a mindset of acceptance and understanding. By letting go of our expectations, we free ourselves to live more authentically and compassionately. We can cultivate deeper relationships, nurture our own growth, and find true happiness and fulfillment within ourselves.
