Theophrastus discusses the ungrateful individual from "summary" of The Characters by Theophrastus

In the world, there is no one more odious than the ungrateful individual. This wretch is like a barren field that takes without giving back. He is like a leech that sucks the blood of others without a thought for their well-being. The ungrateful person is a curse upon society, a blight upon the earth. This ingrate is never satisfied, always wanting more and more. He takes all that is offered to him, but never offers anything in return. He is like a black hole, consuming everything in his path without so much as a thank you. The ungrateful individual is a parasite, feeding off the generosity of others without a shred of remorse. What makes the ungrateful person truly despicable is his sense of entitlement. He believes that the world owes him everything, that he is entitled to the fruits of other people's labor without lifting a finger himself. He is like a spoiled child, throwing tantrums when he doesn't get his way, never appreciating all that he has been given. The ungrateful individual is a master manipulator, using guilt and emotional blackmail to get what he wants. He preys on the kindness of others, taking advantage of their good nature for his own selfish ends. He is a wolf in sheep's clothing, pretending to be grateful while secretly plotting his next move. In the end, the ungrateful person is doomed to a life of loneliness and isolation. He may have all the material wealth in the world, but he will never know true happiness. For true joy comes from giving, from showing gratitude for the blessings we have been given. And the ungrateful individual will never know the true meaning of gratitude, for his heart is as barren as the wasteland he leaves in his wake.
