Meditation is the key to selfrealization from "summary" of The Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramhansa Yogananda

In the search for self-realization, meditation emerges as a vital tool for individuals on the spiritual path. Through the practice of meditation, one can go beyond the limitations of the physical body and the ego, and tap into the infinite wellspring of divine consciousness that lies within. In the words of Paramhansa Yogananda, "The soul loves to meditate, for in contact with the Spirit lies its greatest joy."Meditation serves as a bridge between the individual self and the universal Self. It is through this practice that one can uncover the layers of conditioning and illusion that obscure the true nature of the self. By quieting the mind and turning inward, one can access the deeper layers of consciousness where the true self resides. As Yogananda explains, "Meditation is the process of reuniting the soul with the Cosmic Spirit." Through meditation, one can cultivate a state of inner peace and stillness that transcends the fluctuations of the external world. This inner peace becomes a source of strength and resilience in the face of life's challenges and uncertainties. Yogananda describes meditation as a way to "dive deep into the ocean of silence and bring up pearls of wisdom." It is through this practice that one can discover their true purpose and potential in life. Moreover, meditation allows one to experience a sense of oneness with all of creation. By expanding one's awareness beyond the confines of the individual ego, one can connect with the universal consciousness that underlies all of existence. Yogananda emphasizes the importance of this connection, stating that "Meditation is the key that unlocks the door to the infinite treasures of the Spirit."
  1. The practice of meditation leads to self-realization – the realization of one's true nature as a spiritual being. Through meditation, one can peel away the layers of ego and illusion that obscure this truth, and come to know oneself as a divine spark of the universal Spirit. Yogananda's teachings on meditation serve as a guiding light for those seeking to awaken to their highest potential and experience the profound joy of self-realization.
