Technology has made it harder to find true stillness from "summary" of The Art of Stillness by Pico Iyer
In a world that constantly bombards us with information and distractions, finding true stillness has become increasingly challenging. Technology, in particular, has played a significant role in disrupting our ability to be completely present and at peace. With the proliferation of smartphones, social media, and constant connectivity, we are always plugged in, always reachable, always distracted. The very devices that were meant to make our lives easier have ended up making it harder for us to find moments of quiet and solitude. Our addiction to technology has created a culture of busyness and restlessness. We are constantly checking our phones, scrolling through endless feeds, and consuming information at a rapid pace. This constant stimulation has made it difficult for us to simply be alone with our thoughts, to sit in silence, and to experience true stillness. Our minds are constantly racing, our attention is constantly divided, and our ability to focus has been greatly diminished. Moreover, technology has blurred the boundaries between work and leisure, making it challenging for us to disconnect and unwind. We are always reachable, always expected to be on call, always pressured to be productive. This constant state of busyness and connectivity has left us feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, and disconnected from ourselves. In order to reclaim stillness in our lives, we must make a conscious effort to unplug, disconnect, and create moments of silence. We must learn to embrace solitude, to be comfortable in our own company, and to cultivate a sense of inner peace. By disconnecting from technology and reconnecting with ourselves, we can find moments of clarity, insight, and tranquility. It is only by stepping away from the noise and distractions of the modern world that we can truly experience the beauty and power of stillness.Similar Posts
