Flexibility in decisionmaking can lead to better outcomes from "summary" of The Art of Choosing by Sheena Iyengar

In our quest to make choices, we often tend to believe that sticking to a decision is a sign of strength and certainty. We are conditioned to see flexibility as a sign of weakness or indecisiveness. However, as I have discovered through my research, flexibility in decision-making can actually lead to better outcomes. When we approach decision-making with a flexible mindset, we open ourselves up to new possibilities and information that we may not have considered otherwise. Being willing to adapt and adjust our choices based on new information can lead to more informed and ultimately better decisions. Furthermore, flexibility allows us to navigate the complexities and uncertainties that often accompany decision-making. By being open to changing course when necessary, we can avoid getting stuck in rigid thinking patterns that may not serve us well in the long run. Flexibility also enables us to learn and grow from our choices. When we are willing to reassess our decisions and make adjustments as needed, we are better positioned to learn from our experiences and improve our decision-making skills over time.
  1. Embracing flexibility in decision-making can help us to make more thoughtful, adaptive, and ultimately better choices. By recognizing the value of being open to change and willing to adjust our decisions as needed, we can enhance our decision-making abilities and ultimately achieve better outcomes in our lives.
