Recognize the impermanence of all things from "summary" of Start Where You Are by Pema Chodron

In our lives, we often cling to the idea that things will stay the same forever. We hold on tightly to people, possessions, and circumstances, believing that they will provide us with security and happiness. However, the truth is that everything is constantly changing. This impermanence is a fundamental aspect of life, and it is something that we must come to terms with if we are to find peace and contentment. When we cling to things as if they were permanent, we set ourselves up for disappointment and suffering. We become attached to an illusion, and when that illusion is shattered, we are left feeling lost and confused. By recognizing the impermanence of all things, we can free ourselves from this cycle of attachment and suffering. Impermanence is not something to be feared or avoided; it is simply a fact of life. Just as the seasons change and the tides ebb and flow, so too do our experiences and circumstances. When we accept this truth, we can learn to appreciate each moment for what it is, without trying to hold on to it or push it away. By embracing impermanence, we can cultivate a sense of openness and flexibility in our lives. We can learn to let go of our attachments and expectations, and to be present with whatever arises. This doesn't mean that we shouldn't care about the people and things in our lives; rather, it means that we should hold them lightly, knowing that they are not ours to keep forever. In the face of impermanence, we can find a sense of freedom and liberation. We can let go of our fears and insecurities, knowing that everything is constantly changing and that we have the strength and resilience to adapt. When we recognize the impermanence of all things, we can live more fully and authentically, embracing each moment with gratitude and joy.
