Practice mindfulness through stitching from "summary" of Sewing Happiness by Sanae Ishida

Incorporating mindfulness into daily activities has been a game-changer for me. I find that when I approach my tasks with intention and focus, I am able to fully immerse myself in the present moment, which brings a sense of peace and contentment. One of the ways I practice mindfulness is through stitching. When I sit down at my sewing machine or pick up a needle and thread, I make a conscious effort to slow down and pay attention to each stitch. I focus on the feel of the fabric beneath my fingers, the sound of the machine humming, or the gentle rhythm of the needle moving in and out. By bringing my awareness to these sensations, I am able to quiet the chatter of my mind and be fully present in the act of creating. Stitching also allows me to cultivate a sense of gratitude for the simple act of making something by hand. In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to get caught up in the rush of productivity and forget to appreciate the process itself. But when I take the time to stitch mindfully, I am reminded of the joy that comes from engaging with my hands and heart in a meaningful way. Moreover, stitching helps me to let go of perfectionism and embrace the beauty of imperfection. In a world that often values flawless outcomes, stitching teaches me to appreciate the charm of handmade quirks and variations. By accepting and even celebrating these imperfections, I am able to release the pressure to be perfect and instead focus on the joy of creation.
