Start small, stay focused from "summary" of ReWork by David Heinemeier Hansson,Jason Fried
When you start small, you’re forced to focus. You can’t afford half-assed or delusional grand visions. You need to figure out what’s truly important. And you do that by working on a small subset of the problem. You cut your ambition down to the bare minimum and try to get something useful out the door as quickly as possible. When you keep it simple and focused, you get something out there. And once it’s out there, you start learning from it. You realize what’s missing. What’s confusing. What’s irritating. What’s just not good enough. And you use that information to make the next version better. You don’t waste time predicting what could happen. You just keep chipping away at the problem until you’ve cracked it. You work a lot faster when you’re not bogged down by things that may never happen. You’re forced to focus on what’s essential and cut out all the extraneous stuff. You’re not distracted by future possibilities. You’re not worried about potential problems. You’re not stressing about what might happen. You’re focused on what’s happening now. You’re focused on making something useful. Something valuable. Something that works. You’re taking one small step at a time. You’re not trying to do everything at once. You’re not trying to solve every problem. You’re just trying to solve one problem. And once you’ve solved that problem, you move on to the next. You’re not concerned with making something perfect. You’re concerned with making something that works. You’re not trying to impress anyone. You’re trying to help someone. You’re not focused on what might happen. You’re focused on what’s happening now. And that makes all the difference.Similar Posts
