Mental health became a priority from "summary" of Open: An Autobiography by Andre Agassi

It took me a long time to realize that mental health was just as important as physical health. Growing up, my focus was solely on my tennis game. I pushed myself to the limit, ignoring the toll it was taking on my mind. I thought that as long as I was winning matches, everything else would fall into place. But I was wrong. As I got older and faced more challenges on and off the court, I began to see the impact that my mental state had on my performance. The anxiety, self-doubt, and pressure I felt were holding me back from reaching my full potential. I needed to address these issues if I wanted to continue playing at a high level. I started therapy to work through my thoughts and emotions, and it was a game-changer for me. I learned how to manage my stress, confront my fears, and build resilience in the face of adversity. By prioritizing my mental health, I was able to improve not only as a tennis player but as a person. It wasn't easy to shift my focus from just training my body to also training my mind. There were times when I wanted to give up, to go back to my old ways of ignoring the mental aspect of the game. But I knew that I couldn't afford to neglect this crucial part of my well-being. In the end, putting my mental health first was the best decision I ever made. It allowed me to perform at a higher level, enjoy the game more, and take care of myself in a way I never had before. Mental health became my priority, and it made all the difference in my career and my life.
