Human impact on the environment is a pressing global issue from "summary" of NCERT Exemplar Problems-Solutions BIOLOGY class 12th by Arihant Experts
The impact of human activities on the environment is a matter of great concern on a global scale. The continuous and often unsustainable exploitation of natural resources by humans has resulted in severe environmental degradation. This has led to a plethora of issues such as deforestation, soil erosion, loss of biodiversity, pollution of air, water, and soil, and climate change. One of the major contributors to environmental degradation is deforestation. The clearing of forests for agriculture, urbanization, and industrial activities has led to the loss of crucial habitats for numerous plant and animal species. This has resulted in a decline in biodiversity, which can have far-reaching consequences on the stability of ecosystems. Soil erosion is another pressing issue caused by human activities such as overgrazing, deforestation, and improper agricultural practices. Soil erosion not only leads to the loss of fertile topsoil but also contributes to water pollution through the runoff of sediments and chemicals into water bodies. Pollution of air, water, and soil is a significant consequence of human activities such as industrialization, transportation, and waste disposal. Air pollution from the burning of fossil fuels and industrial emissions has led to health problems and climate change. Water pollution from the discharge of industrial effluents and agricultural chemicals has contaminated water sources and affected aquatic ecosystems. Soil pollution from the use of pesticides and fertilizers has degraded soil quality and harmed soil organisms. Climate change, caused primarily by the emission of greenhouse gases from human activities, is a global issue with far-reaching impacts on ecosystems and human societies. The rise in global temperatures has led to changing weather patterns, melting glaciers, rising sea levels, and increased frequency of extreme weather events.- The impact of human activities on the environment is a pressing global issue that requires urgent attention and action. It is essential for individuals, communities, governments, and organizations to work together to mitigate the negative effects of human activities on the environment and promote sustainable practices for the well-being of present and future generations.
