The idea that lies can snowball out of control is a familiar one. We have all experienced the feeling of being caught in a web of deceit that seems to grow more tangled with each passing moment. It is like trying to hold back an avalanche with a broom. When we tell a lie, we often do so in the hope that it will spare us some discomfort or embarrassment. But what we fail to realize is that lying is like planting a seed that will grow into a tangled thicket of falsehoods. Once we have told one lie, we are compelled to tell more to cover it up.
