The lives of families are often torn apart by the violent interventions of powerful nations, who see fit to impose their will on others through force and coercion. In the name of spreading democracy or combating communism, these interventions bring untold suffering to innocent civilians who have done nothing to provoke such aggression. In Guatemala, for example, the United States supported a military coup in 1954 that overthrew the democratically elected government, plunging the country into decades of brutal dictatorship and civil war. Countless families were torn apart, with loved ones disappearing or being killed by government forces. Children were left orphaned, parents were left grieving, and communities were left shattered by the violence unleashed upon them.
