Do not label foods as good or bad from "summary" of Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole, M.S., R.D.,Elyse Resch, M.S., R.D., F.A.D.A.

When we label foods as "good" or "bad," we are setting ourselves up for a harmful cycle of restriction and guilt. This labeling system creates a sense of morality around food, where certain foods are deemed virtuous while others are considered sinful. This dichotomy can lead to feelings of shame and failure when we inevitably consume foods that fall into the "bad" category. In reality, all foods can fit into a balanced and healthy diet. By removing these labels, we are able to approach food with a more neutral mindset. Instead of viewing foods as inherently good or bad, we can start to see them as simply choices that we make based on our preferences and needs in that moment. When we let go of the moral judgments we place on food, we can begin to listen to our bodies and trust our internal cues to guide our eating habits. This intuitive approach allows us to honor our hunger, respect our fullness, and respond to our cravings without guilt or shame.
  1. We can cultivate a healthier relationship with food and our bodies. This shift in mindset empowers us to make food choices that nourish us both physically and emotionally, without the burden of restrictive rules or harsh self-criticism. Ultimately, it is through this compassionate and accepting approach to food that we can find true peace and freedom in our eating habits.
