Margins can be physical or emotional from "summary" of In the Margins by Elena Ferrante

The margins that we inhabit are not limited to the physical spaces we occupy. They extend beyond the boundaries of our bodies, into the realm of our emotions. Just as we can be marginalized in society, pushed to the outskirts of acceptance and belonging, so too can our feelings be pushed to the margins of our consciousness, relegated to the periphery of our awareness. When we speak of margins, we often think of the edges of a page, the blank spaces that frame the written word. But margins are more than just empty spaces, more than mere afterthoughts in the grand scheme of things. They are places of potential, spaces where new ideas can take root and grow. They are fertile ground for creativity, for exploration, for self-discovery. In the margins of our lives, we confront our deepest fears and desires, our most profound hopes and disappointments. We grapple with the contradictions and complexities of our existence, wrestling with the contradictions and complexities of our own hearts. We are forced to confront our own vulnerabilities, our own insecurities, our own doubts. The margins can be a place of refuge, a sanctuary from the chaos and confusion of the world. They can be a place of solace, a source of comfort and consolation in times of trouble. They can be a place of transformation, a crucible in which we are forged and remade, in which we are broken down and rebuilt, stronger and wiser than before. But the margins can also be a place of exile, a prison from which there is no escape. They can be a place of isolation, a desert in which we wander, lost and alone. They can be a place of despair, a void from which there is no return. They can be a place of darkness, a shadow from which we can never emerge. In the margins, we are confronted with the stark realities of our own existence, with the harsh truths of our own mortality. We are forced to confront the fragility of our own lives, the impermanence of our own selves. We are forced to confront the inevitability of our own death, the finality of our own end. And yet, in the margins, we also find the seeds of our own redemption, the promise of our own salvation. We find the strength to endure, the courage to persevere, the faith to believe in a better tomorrow. We find the resilience to overcome, the determination to succeed, the hope to prevail. In the margins, we
