Letting go of attachments reduces suffering from "summary" of Happiness by Matthieu Ricard

Attachments are like chains that bind us to the ups and downs of life. When we are attached to something or someone, we become vulnerable to suffering. This is because our happiness becomes dependent on external factors that are beyond our control. We cling to things that bring us pleasure and try to avoid things that bring us pain, but this only leads to more suffering in the long run. Letting go of attachments does not mean giving up on life or becoming detached from the world. It simply means cultivating a sense of inner freedom that is not contingent on external circumstances.
