Main character's family faces adversity from "summary" of Godan by Munshi Premchand

In the novel 'Godan', the main character, Hori, and his family experience a series of challenges and hardships that test their resilience and strength. From the very beginning of the story, Hori is shown to be a hardworking and dedicated farmer who struggles to make ends meet. Despite his efforts, he is constantly burdened by debt and poverty, which only seem to worsen over time. One of the major adversities that Hori's family faces is the pressure from moneylenders who exploit their vulnerability and force them into a cycle of debt that seems impossible to break. The constant fear of losing their land and livelihood hangs over them like a dark cloud, creating a sense of hopelessness and despair. Furthermore, the sudden illness of Hori's wife, Dhania, adds to their already mounting problems. With no money for proper medical treatment, they are left to rely on traditional remedies and prayers, which offer little comfort in the face of such dire circumstances. The family's struggle to cope with Dhania's illness highlights the fragility of their existence and the harsh realities of life in rural India. As if these challenges were not enough, Hori's son, Gobar, also faces his share of troubles when he falls in love with a woman from a higher caste. The societal norms and prejudices against inter-caste relationships create tension and conflict within the family, further complicating their already troubled situation. Throughout the novel, the main character's family is shown to be resilient in the face of adversity, drawing strength from their love and bond with each other. Despite the overwhelming odds stacked against them, they continue to fight for survival and hope for a better future. The struggles of Hori's family serve as a poignant reminder of the harsh realities faced by many in society, shedding light on the injustices and inequalities that persist in the world.
