When we are fully immersed in an activity that challenges us just enough to keep us engaged but not overwhelmed, we often lose track of time and forget about our worries and concerns. This state of intense focus and absorption is what psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi refers to as "flow." In this state, we are so engrossed in what we are doing that our sense of self-consciousness disappears. We are no longer preoccupied with how we are perceived by others or with evaluating our own performance. Instead, our attention is completely absorbed by the task at hand, and we lose ourselves in the moment.
