Mindfulness and selfawareness are fundamental in Ayurveda from "summary" of Everyday Ayurveda by Bhaswati Bhattacharya

Mindfulness and self-awareness are like the roots of a tree in Ayurveda, providing nourishment and stability to the entire system. When we are mindful, we are fully present in the moment, aware of our thoughts, emotions, and actions. This awareness allows us to make conscious choices that support our health and well-being. Self-awareness, on the other hand, involves knowing ourselves deeply – our strengths, weaknesses, likes, and dislikes. It is only through self-awareness that we can truly understand our unique constitution and make choices that are in alignment with our individual needs. In Ayurveda, the mind and body are seen as interconnected, each influencing the other in a constant dance of balance and imbalance. When we are mindful of our thoughts and emotions, we can prevent imbalances from taking root in the body. Similarly, when we are self-aware, we can tailor our diet, lifestyle, and self-care practices to suit our unique constitution, preventing diseases before they manifest. Cultivating mindfulness and self-awareness is not always easy in today's fast-paced world. We are often distracted by technology, work, and other commitments, leaving little time for introspection and self-care. However, Ayurveda teaches us that taking the time to slow down, breathe, and connect with ourselves is essential for maintaining balance and harmony in our lives. Practicing mindfulness can take many forms, from meditation and deep breathing to mindful eating and walking. The key is to find practices that resonate with us personally and incorporate them into our daily routine. Self-awareness, on the other hand, requires honest introspection and a willingness to confront our habits and patterns, both positive and negative. By deepening our mindfulness and self-awareness, we can tap into the innate wisdom of our bodies and minds, making choices that support our health and well-being. In this way, Ayurveda becomes not just a system of medicine, but a way of life – a path to self-discovery, balance, and wholeness.
