Groupthink mentality prevails in the age of virtue dictatorship from "summary" of Dictatorship of Virtue by Richard Bernstein

In our current age, there is a prevailing mentality known as groupthink. This mentality is characterized by a desire for conformity and unanimity within a group, often at the expense of critical thinking and independent judgment. Groupthink thrives in environments where individuals are afraid to express dissenting opinions or challenge the status quo. The rise of virtue dictatorship has only exacerbated this groupthink mentality. In a virtue dictatorship, certain moral values and beliefs are imposed on society as the ultimate truth, leaving little room for discussion or debate. Those who do not conform to these values are often shamed or ostracized, creating a culture of fear and self-censorship. In such an environment, groupthink becomes the norm, as individuals strive to align themselves with the prevailing ideology in order to avoid being labeled as morally inferior. This leads to a lack of diversity of thought and a stifling of creativity and innovation. Furthermore, the pressure to conform to the group mentality can have serious consequences for society as a whole. When individuals are discouraged from questioning authority or challenging prevailing beliefs, it becomes easier for those in power to manipulate and control the narrative. Dissent is silenced, and genuine progress becomes stifled.
  1. The groupthink mentality that prevails in the age of virtue dictatorship is a threat to freedom of thought and expression. It is only through encouraging independent thinking and valuing diversity of opinion that we can hope to overcome the tyranny of conformity and truly progress as a society.
