Integrity is nonnegotiable in leadership from "summary" of Dare to Lead by Brené Brown
Integrity is not optional. It’s the bedrock of any functional and healthy organization. When we’re in leadership positions, we are asking people to trust us. We’re asking them to give us their time, their effort, and sometimes their money. We’re asking them to make sacrifices, to take risks, to go above and beyond. And the only currency we have to give them in return is our integrity. Without integrity, we have nothing. We can have all the fancy titles and corner offices in the world, but if we don’t act with integrity, we’ve lost the trust of our team. And once that trust is gone, it’s nearly impossible to get it back. Integrity is about doing the right thing, even when it’s hard. It’s about being honest, even when the truth is uncomfortable. It’s about making decisions that are in the best interest of the organization, even when they might not be in our own best interest. When we lead with integrity, we create a culture of trust. Our team knows that they can count on us to do what we say we’ll do, to be honest and transparent in our communication, and to always act with their best interests at heart. And when our team trusts us, they are more engaged, more motivated, and more likely to go the extra mile. But when we compromise our integrity, we erode that trust. We send a message that we can’t be counted on, that we’re not always honest, that we might not have the best interests of the organization at heart. And once that seed of doubt is planted, it can be difficult to root out. So as leaders, we must hold ourselves to the highest standard of integrity. We must be willing to do the right thing, even when it’s hard. We must be willing to be honest, even when the truth is uncomfortable. And we must be willing to make decisions that are in the best interest of the organization, even when they might not be in our own best interest. Because in the end, integrity is what sets great leaders apart from the rest.Similar Posts
