Redox reactions involve the transfer of electrons between species from "summary" of Chemistry by Russell Kuhtz
Redox reactions are chemical reactions in which there is a transfer of electrons between the reactants. This transfer of electrons is what gives the name "redox" to these reactions, which is short for reduction-oxidation reactions. In a redox reaction, one species loses electrons (is oxidized) while another species gains those electrons (is reduced). This transfer of electrons is what allows for the change in oxidation states of the different species involved in the reaction. The species that loses electrons is called the reducing agent, while the species that gains electrons is called the oxidizi...Similar Posts
