It's a fact of life that not all people are created equal when it comes to providing comfort, support, and appropriate feedback during times of stress. Some folks have a natural gift for making others feel better. They're the ones who'll listen to you vent without interrupting, offer a shoulder to cry on, and tell you that everything will be okay, even when you're absolutely positive that it won't. Sometimes these people are friends, family members, or coworkers; other times, they're professional therapists, counselors, or support-group members. Regardless of their relationship to you, they have one thing in common: they make you feel better just by being around. Surrounding yourself with supportive people is one of the most effective ways to calm the f*ck down when you're stressed, anxious, or upset.
