Mindfulness is about being present in every moment from "summary" of Buddhism Plain and Simple by Steve Hagen

Mindfulness is not about trying to achieve anything, nor is it about attaining a state of mind that is serene or peaceful. It's not about finding something that is hidden or about arriving at some special place. It's not about transcending this world, getting high, or attaining some exalted state of being. It's about being present in each moment. When we're mindful, we're simply present with whatever is happening right now. We're not trying to make anything happen, nor are we trying to get rid of anything. We're not trying to change anything - we're just being with things as they are. This doesn't mean that we're satisfied with the way things are, or that we're resigned to the status quo. It's just that we're present with things as they are, whether we like them or not. Mindfulness is about being fully in touch with the present moment. It's about being fully alive and fully human. It's about being right here, right now. When we're mindful, we're not dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. We're not lost in thought or caught up in our emotions. We're not distracted by our desires or driven by our fears. We're simply present, fully aware of what's happening in this moment. Mindfulness is not just a practice that we do when we sit in meditation. It's a way of being that we can bring into every moment of our lives. It's about being fully present with whatever we're doing - whether we're washing the dishes, walking the dog, or talking to a friend. It's about being present with ourselves, with others, and with the world around us. Being mindful doesn't mean that we have to be serious or solemn. It doesn't mean that we have to be detached or dispassionate. It doesn't mean that we have to be quiet or still. Being mindful means that we're fully engaged with whatever is happening in this moment - whether it's joyful or painful, exciting or boring, pleasant or unpleasant. It means that we're fully present with our experience, just as it is.
