Acceptance is key to finding peace from "summary" of Buddhism Plain and Simple by Steve Hagen
Acceptance is the key to finding peace. This is a fundamental truth that is often overlooked in our search for happiness. We often believe that if we can just change our circumstances or control our external environment, then we will finally be at peace. But this is a mistaken belief. Peace does not come from trying to control the world around us. It comes from accepting the world as it is, without judgment or resistance. This is not to say that we should passively accept injustice or suffering. Rather, it means that we should accept the reality of the present moment, whatever it may be. When we learn to accept things as they are, we stop struggling against reality. We stop wasting our energy on trying to change things that are beyond our control. This doesn't mean that we become complacent or resigned to our fate. It simply means that we stop resisting what is, and start working with it. Acceptance is not about giving up or giving in. It is about acknowledging the truth of the present moment, and responding to it with wisdom and compassion. When we accept things as they are, we can see more clearly and act more skillfully. We are no longer blinded by our desires and aversions, our hopes and fears. Acceptance is a radical act of courage and wisdom. It requires us to let go of our ego-driven need to control everything, and to trust in the natural unfolding of life. When we can accept things as they are, we can find peace in the midst of chaos, and happiness in the face of suffering. So, if you want to find peace in your life, start by practicing acceptance. Learn to accept yourself as you are, with all your flaws and imperfections. Learn to accept others as they are, without trying to change them. And most importantly, learn to accept the reality of the present moment, whatever it may be. In accepting things as they are, you will find the peace that you have been searching for.Similar Posts
