Find contentment within oneself, not in external circumstances from "summary" of Bhagvat Gita ka Yog (Hindi) by Sri Sri Krishna Prem

In the journey of life, we often seek happiness and contentment in external circumstances - in wealth, in success, in relationships. We believe that acquiring material possessions or achieving certain goals will bring us the fulfillment we desire. However, the truth is that true contentment lies within ourselves, not in the external world. When we look outside for happiness, we become dependent on constantly changing factors that are beyond our control. We are at the mercy of circumstances that are fleeting and impermanent. This leads to a cycle of seeking more and more, always chasing after the next thing that promises to bring us joy. But this external pursuit is endless and ultimately unfulfilling. On the other hand, when we turn inward and find contentment within ourselves, we discover a source of happiness that is stable and everlasting. This inner contentment is not dependent on external factors, but is rooted in our own being. It is a state of mind that is independent of the ups and downs of life, a state of being that is untouched by the fluctuations of the world. This concept is beautifully illustrated in the Bhagavad Gita, where Lord Krishna teaches Arjuna the importance of finding peace and contentment within oneself. He explains that true happiness comes from realizing one's own self, from connecting with the divine within. When we are able to tap into this inner source of joy, we no longer need to rely on external circumstances to feel content. By cultivating a sense of contentment within ourselves, we free ourselves from the endless cycle of desire and attachment that binds us to the external world. We learn to accept life as it comes, without getting caught up in the pursuit of fleeting pleasures. This inner contentment allows us to face life's challenges with equanimity and grace, knowing that our true happiness lies within.
