Service to humanity as service to God from "summary" of Bhagavad-Gita As It Is by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

The Bhagavad-Gita teaches us that service to humanity is not just a noble act, but it is also a way to serve God. When we selflessly serve others, we are actually expressing our love and devotion to the Supreme Lord. This concept is beautifully explained in Chapter 3, Verse 17, where it is said that "one who is in the knowledge of the Absolute Truth, O mighty-armed, does not engage himself in the senses and sense gratification, knowing well the differences between work in devotion and work for fruitive results."In other words, when we perform our duties with a sense of detachment and with the understanding that we are simply instruments in the hands of God, we are actually offering our service to Him. This attitude of selflessness and surrender is crucial in the path of devotion, as it helps us transcend our own ego and connect with the divine. The Bhagavad-Gita also reminds us that all living beings are part and parcel of the Supreme Lord, and by serving them, we are serving Him. In Chapter 9, Verse 29, Lord Krishna says, "I envy no one, nor am I partial to anyone. I am equal to all. But whoever renders service unto Me in devotion is a friend, is in Me, and I am also a friend to him." This verse emphasizes the importance of serving others with love and devotion, as it is a direct way to connect with God. By seeing the divinity in every living being and by treating them with kindness and compassion, we are actually worshipping the Lord Himself.
  1. The concept of service to humanity as service to God is a central teaching in the Bhagavad-Gita.
