Bhagavad-Gita As It Is is a translation and commentary on the Bhagavad Gita, an ancient Hindu text embedded in the Mahabharata. Swami Prabhupada's edition of the Gita is divided into two parts, the Gita in its original Sanskrit language, and Prabhupada's commentary on it. In his commentary, Prabhupada explains the meaning of the Sanskrit, as well as providing historical, spiritual, and practical insights for everyday life, in order to help readers gain a better understanding of the text. He explains how the Gita can help all types of people — from the meditating ascetic, to the householder, to the businessman — in their attempt to reach a higher spiritual state. He further explores the topics of karma, jnana, bhakti, and moksha, and how knowledge of these topics can lead each individual on a unique path to spiritual realization. This book provides an important and essential guide on understanding and living the teachings of the Gita.
