The ego creates suffering and separation from "summary" of Autobiography of a Yogi (Unabridged Edition) by Paramhansa Yogananda
The ego, that false sense of self which we mistakenly identify as our true nature, is the root cause of suffering and separation in our lives. It is this ego which creates a sense of individuality and separateness, leading us to believe that we are separate from the rest of creation. This illusion of separateness gives rise to all kinds of suffering, as we struggle to protect and defend this false sense of self. We become attached to our desires, fears, and attachments, which only serve to reinforce our belief in the reality of our ego. As long as we are identified with the ego, we will continue to experience suffering and separation. The ego is like a veil that covers our true nature, preventing us from experiencing the oneness of all creation. It is this ego that causes us to see others as separate from ourselves, leading to conflict, competition, and division. Our ego-driven desires and fears further reinforce this sense of separation, as we seek to fulfill our own needs and protect ourselves from perceived threats. To overcome this cycle of suffering and separation, we must transcend our ego and realize our true nature as spiritual beings. We must let go of our attachment to the ego and its desires, fears, and attachments, and instead seek to experience the oneness of all creation. When we transcend the ego, we can experience a deep sense of connection with all beings, recognizing that we are all part of the same divine consciousness. By letting go of the ego and embracing our true nature, we can free ourselves from suffering and separation, and experience a deep sense of peace, love, and unity. It is only by transcending the ego that we can truly experience the joy and fulfillment that come from realizing our oneness with all of creation.Similar Posts
