The testes are the primary reproductive organs in males, responsible for producing sperm and hormones. Sperm production, also known as spermatogenesis, occurs within the seminiferous tubules of the testes. Sperm cells develop from spermatogonia through a series of mitotic and meiotic divisions. Eventually, mature sperm cells are released into the lumen of the seminiferous tubules. In addition to sperm production, the testes also play a crucial role in hormone production. Leydig cells, which are located in the connective tissue surrounding the seminiferous tubules, produce testosterone.
