Each organ system is made up of multiple organs, which are structures composed of two or more different tissues that work together to perform specific functions. The organs within a system are interconnected and dependent on each other to maintain homeostasis, the body's ability to maintain a stable internal environment despite external changes. For example, the digestive system consists of organs such as the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and large intestine, as well as accessory organs like the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder. Each of these organs plays a unique role in the process of digesting food and absorbing nutrients. The mouth is responsible for chewing and swallowing food, while the stomach secretes digestive enzymes and acids to break down food particles.
