Bryson and Katz face unpredictable weather from "summary" of A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson

Throughout our journey along the Appalachian Trail, Katz and I encountered a wide range of weather conditions, each more unpredictable than the last. From scorching heat to bone-chilling cold, from torrential rain to unexpected snowstorms, Mother Nature threw everything she had at us. It seemed as though we couldn't catch a break, as the weather changed on a dime, leaving us scrambling to adapt. One moment we would be sweating profusely under the blazing sun, our water supply dwindling rapidly. The next, dark clouds would roll in ominously, unleashing a deluge of rain that soaked us to the bone. We would trudge on through the mud and muck, our spirits dampened along with our clothes. And just when we thought we had seen it all, a sudden drop in temperature would herald the arrival of snow, turning the trail into a treacherous icy path. Despite our best efforts to prepare for the elements, there was no way to predict what Mother Nature had in store for us. We found ourselves at her mercy, vulnerable and exposed to whatever weather she saw fit to send our way. The only thing we could do was steel ourselves against the elements, hunker down when necessary, and push forward when the storm passed. As we continued our trek, we learned to appreciate the beauty of the changing seasons and the resilience of the natural world. We marveled at the way the landscape transformed under the influence of sun, rain, wind, and snow. We gained a newfound respect for the power of nature and our own ability to endure its whims. And through it all, we forged a bond that could withstand any storm, literal or metaphorical, that came our way.
