A Walk in the Woods is a travelogue by Bill Bryson, recounting his attempt to walk the Appalachian Trail in 1996. He and his friend Stephen Katz attempt to cover the 2,000-mile trail, which runs from Georgia to Maine, over the course of five months. Along the way, Bryson encounters wildlife, struggles with the terrain and weather, and meets a wide variety of characters, both human and animal. Despite the challenges they face, Bryson and Katz eventually make it to their destination, conquering the Appalachian Trail and finding themselves changed by the experience.
