Do not let your children interrupt you or anyone else from "summary" of 12 Rules for Life by Jordan B. Peterson

When children interrupt, they are demonstrating their belief that what they have to say is more important than what the adults are saying. This behavior should not be tolerated, as it teaches them that their needs and desires are paramount, leading to a sense of entitlement. The habit of interrupting can persist into adulthood, causing problems in social and professional relationships. By allowing children to interrupt, parents are failing to teach them the crucial skill of listening. Listening is essential for effective communication and understanding, and interrupting disrupts the flow of conversation. Children must learn to wait their turn to speak, showing respect for others and developing patience. When children interrupt, they are not only disrespecting the person speaking but also failing to consider the impact of their actions on the conversation as a whole. By prioritizing their own thoughts over the speaker's, they are hindering the exchange of ideas and hindering their own ability to learn and grow. Parents must set boundaries and enforce rules regarding interrupting to instill in their children the importance of respecting others. By consistently addressing and correcting this behavior, parents can help children develop into attentive listeners who understand the value of patience and consideration in communication. Children who are taught not to interrupt will be better equipped to engage in meaningful conversations, build strong relationships, and succeed in various aspects of life. It is the responsibility of parents to instill these essential communication skills in their children from a young age, setting them up for success in the future.
