Vertical progress is more important than horizontal progress from "summary" of Zero to One by Peter Thiel,Blake Masters
Horizontal progress means copying things that work – going from 1 to n. It's easy to copy things that already exist, but it rarely leads to real breakthroughs. Vertical progress is doing new things – going from 0 to 1. This is much harder, but it's where true innovation and value creation happen. Vertical progress is essential because it allows us to create something entirely new that didn't exist before. It's about taking risks and thinking outside the box to come up with groundbreaking ideas. Horizontal progress, on the other hand, is just about incremental improvements on existing ideas. It might make things a little bit better, but it doesn't change the game. In today's world, we tend to focus too much on horizontal progress. We look for what's already working and try to replicate it. But this mindset limits our potential for real innovation. If we want to truly make an impact, we need to prioritize vertical progress. We need to be willing to take risks, think creatively, and push the boundaries of what's possible. Vertical progress is what separates the great companies from the good ones. It's what allows us to create something truly unique and valuable. When we focus on vertical progress, we're not just following the crowd – we're leading it. We're charting new territory and creating new opportunities. And that's where the real magic happens.Similar Posts
