Understanding the body's natural rhythms is crucial from "summary" of Yoga and Ayurveda by David Frawley

The body has its own innate intelligence and follows its own natural rhythms. These rhythms dictate the functioning of our various bodily systems, including digestion, circulation, and sleep. When we are in tune with these rhythms, we experience optimal health and well-being. However, when we ignore or disrupt these rhythms, we can experience imbalances and health issues. Ayurveda teaches us to pay attention to our body's natural rhythms and to align our daily routines and practices with them. This includes following a daily routine (dinacharya) that is in harmony with the natural cycles of the day, eating meals at regular times, and going to bed and waking up at consistent times. By doing so, we support our body's natural rhythms and promote health and vitality. Yoga also emphasizes the importance of understanding and honoring the body's natural rhythms. Through the practice of asanas, pranayama, and meditation, we can connect with our body on a deeper level and become more attuned to its needs and signals. This awareness allows us to make choices that support our overall well-being and prevent disease. When we are out of sync with our body's natural rhythms, we may experience symptoms such as fatigue, digestive issues, and sleep disturbances. These are signs that our body is out of balance and that we need to make changes to realign ourselves with our natural rhythms. By listening to our body and making adjustments to our lifestyle and habits, we can restore balance and health.
