Overcome fear with courage from "summary" of Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes

For as long as I can remember, fear has been my constant companion. It has whispered doubt in my ear and filled my mind with worst-case scenarios. It has held me back from taking risks and pursuing my dreams. But this year, I made a conscious decision to face my fears head-on, to confront them with courage instead of running away. Courage doesn't mean the absence of fear; it means feeling the fear and doing it anyway. It means acknowledging the voice of doubt in your head but not letting it control you. It means taking that first step, even when your legs are shaking and your heart is pounding in your chest. When I decided to say "yes" to everything that scared me, I discovered a newfound sense of liberation. I realized that fear only has power over us if we let it. By choosing to be brave, by choosing to step outside of my comfort zone, I was able to reclaim my sense of agency and control. Courage is a muscle that grows stronger with each use. The more I pushed myself to face my fears – whether it was giving a speech in front of a crowd or trying something new – the more my confidence grew. I found that the things that once seemed insurmountable became more manageable with each small victory. It's easy to let fear dictate our lives, to let it hold us back from reaching our full potential. But when we choose courage instead, when we face our fears head-on, we open ourselves up to a world of possibilities. We discover that we are capable of so much more than we ever imagined. So this year, I challenge you to embrace courage in the face of fear. Say "yes" to the things that scare you, to the things that make your heart race with anticipation. Be bold, be brave, and watch as your world expands in ways you never thought possible.
